Presents  - Not just for Christmas:

I received this gift from a client I've done of lot of training with on on line marketing, especially Twitter.  It reminded me how important our choice of gift is.  Not only was I extremely touched by the thought but it was a surprise gift AND totally appropriate for me.  So make sure your gifts are appropriate for the person receiving them, rather than something you like, and don't forget to be spontaneous too.

Bespoke and handmade gifts are really current at the moment. With Christmas coming there's so many craft, antique, vintage, retro markets and fairs out there there's no need to be stuck with anything remotely mundane this year.  If you can't manage getting to them, go on line to places like Etsy, Not On The Highstreet (NOTHS), and for British-made crafts Folksy and UK Handmade

Business tips for stalls and stands

If you're exhibiting or selling, make use of all the space you have, with a big impact on your main item(s) or brand. Find something eye catching like balloons, music, shiny materials or large banners that will make you stand out. Try to capture potential customer details.  You could sell raffle tickets for an item or service, hold a competition, guess the weight of something, demonstrate what you do or items at your stand to create interest and draw a crowd.

Don't forget to give out your business card or details with every purchase and to anyone interested.

End of 2011:

What's happened to you since my first Newsletter?  An awful lot can happen to you in a month.  The many moments that make up a whole month would be hard to record for anyone.  I wrote a blog about enjoying the special ones.  I also managed to have some fun times, keep up with my friends and business contacts through networking, both in person and on line and have a baby!

Remember, the purpose of this Newsletter is to share with you the best information from the month that will help you learn and grow as a person, and tips especially if you are starting or want to grow your business. So, sign up NOW to receive them:

Baby Nikki and new Baby Kate

The Same but Different

Even when we think something's the same, it won't be exactly the same.  We say, 'I know how you feel', but we mean we have been in a similar situation and can relate to the way that person's feeling but we don't know exactly how they feel, do we?  Everyone's lives and experiences are different so no matter how similar an experience we may have had, it will never be exactly the same.

As you can see, my babies are remarkably similar, but there are marked differences in my girls. These were noticable even from a moment after birth. New baby Kate has dimples and is bigger.

This is why in business I believe there is no such thing as competition.  We all do things differently, even if the differences are only subtle.  Whether we're a one man band or a multinational, not one is the same as another.  So, remember too our customers will be different and looking for different things so remember to highlight not only what you do or sell but how you are different.
Birthday Cards

Another Year

As you get older time seems to go quicker, doesn't it?  I'm sure this is just because each year becomes a smaller proportion of our lives.  In year one, that one year is your entire life but when you older, one year is a much smaller proportion, and so feels much less significant.

What's great about a year ending is it's a great time to review what you've achieved  Whatever you haven't done that you'd like to do, whether that's jobs round your home, business or career goals or fun things, here's your perfect opportunity to look at them all. If there's things you'd like to have done there's still time do them or at least make proper plans to.  Write them down to make them real and start a list of things to do.  Do or at least diary in the first thing to get you going.  I can feel a new blog post coming on this, so watch out for that!

It ain't over 'til the fat lady sings!

Have a fantastic Christmas break and Happy New Year to you!
