Biggest Year Ever!

Tommy Smythe reports on the fun and frivolities (and serious art buying) at last night's Art with Heart for Casey House |

Casey House pulled out all the stops at last night's SOLD OUT Art with Heart!
I joined 899 other art enthusiasts at the Carlu, where all of us experienced the electricity that gets generated when you collectively raise $830,000 for a tremendous cause!
One thing is certain: Casey House knows how to throw a great party. Between the mouth watering lamb confit and the late evening poutine (delivered to my seat so I would not miss a second of the auction) I had a difficult time keeping my paddle at bay before my lot came up. The amazing Curatorial Committee once again must be commended: The art was truly stellar.
Hands down the most exciting moment of the night was when bidders went head to head over a piece by up-and-coming artist Charles Bierk. Attendees jumped up and applauded the extraordinary winning bid of $24,000- we all knew we were watching the launch of a Canadian art star. This work also carried a matching sponsorship from Barrick Gold, meaning that the winning bidder single-handedly raised $31,500 for Casey House.

Last night proved once again that Art with Heart truly is the top contemporary Canadian art auction of the year. Art buyers certainly agreed, buying over $540,000 worth of art last night---25% over the estimate and setting a new record for art sales at this event.
Tickets were hot this year, with the event selling out four days in advance. Don't be disappointed and mark this MUST ATTEND event in your calendar for October 2012!
Also be sure to keep this date bookmarked: February 25, 2012. That's the night that my co-chairs Suzanne Dimma and Mark Challen from Canadian House and Home magazine are going to 'shake things up' at Casey House's annual gala, SnowBall. Stay tuned to www.caseyhouse.com for the big reveal on that! |
