Your Mid-Week Minute

Take a Minute // Transform Your Life!

January 18, 2012

Where's Your Focus?

Welcome!  I don't know about you..but I gave up resolutions a few years ago. Instead I found it much more rewarding to FOCUS on a certain word/trait that I wanted to improve on. Last year, my word was faith. This year, it's LOVE - loving God, myself and others more. What are you focusing on this year?  ~ Tonia

One Word Can Make All the Difference:
In her book, One Perfect Word, Debbie Macomber says, "The surprising thing is that when we decide to focus on one word for the year, God takes part in the choosing. That's why the word is perfect for us. We may not see it at the time, but as we look back we see that it all worked together - our word, our life, our journey." She continues, "When we choose one single word and spend a year with it, I've found that the Lord takes us by the hand and walks us through the year, teaching us about that word, about ourselves and even more, about God himself."

Are you ready to find your one perfect word for 2012?.....

Choosing Your Word:
1) Look and Listen - Ask God to show you what He wants you to focus on this year. Is it love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, goodness, self-control?
Is it giving, sharing, listening, speaking, learning or obeying? Once you set your mind on choosing a word, you'll be surprised how God will reveal it to you.

2) Watch for Your Word - It can be something tangible or intangible. It can be a thought or a feeling or an action. It can be a character trait or an accomplishment or a place you want to end up. A word that can be a reminder, a nudge. A word that you can reflect on, that will challenge you, that will inspire you. Watch for it!

 3) Embrace Your Word - Maybe a word popped right into your head. Maybe you need to let the idea percolate a bit longer. Either way, more often than not, your word finds you. You’ll probably have a love/hate relationship with it. That’s okay. If it doesn’t scare you at least a little, it’s probably not the right word. Embrace it!
