Dear Grace Hill Church family and friends,
I came across a pithy quote from G. K. Chesterton yesterday that made me laugh as I thought about the inexact science and art of church planting. He said, "if a thing is worth doing, it is worth doing badly." I can think of no greater pleasure for me right now than to be engaged in the work of planting/pastoring Grace Hill. It is worth making lots of mistakes in order to become an increasingly gospel-centered, gospel-driven kind of church in which we are seeing lives being transformed before our eyes. Thank you for giving me the grace to "do things badly."
FIGHT CLUB STARTING UP ON SEPTEMBER 19
I'm going to be leading a men's discipleship group (Fight Club) on Monday evenings opposite of the ladies' Heart2Heart Study. We will be working through a study called, The Gospel-Centered Life, which will help ground our identity, work, relationships and every other part of our lives in the gospel. You won't want to miss this opportunity. If evenings don't work for you, never fear, we are looking at starting an early morning group as well. If you're interested in either one, let me know by emailing me.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT PRAYER GATHERING ON SEPTEMBER 21.
This is an opportunity for those who want to pray/need to pray/want to learn how to pray to join with fellow Grace Hillers to pray for one another, our church and our city. I've already said it once and I will continue to say it (primarily for my own benefit) that this building will not be the answer to our growth challenge - only prayer. Why? Because prayer changes us. It gives us God's perspective and reveals his heart for us and for our city. In prayer, we can confess the things that are hindering our growth in grace that often foul up our witness to others. If prayer is anything, it is a declaration of dependence upon God's name, power and grace for our lives and the lives of those we care about. We will meet at 7 at the church.

EUIPPING THE SAINTS WORKSHOP ON OCTOBER 8.
Your chance to discern God's divine design for your life is coming up on October 8. From 9am to noon, we'll gather in the church to work through the Equipping The Saints curriculum designed by Dr. Phil Douglass a former seminary professor and pastor of mine.
