By Henrik Ibsen
Directed by Stephen Unwin
Ellida is married to Dr Wangel and lives with
him and his two daughters. But she feels
claustrophobic and restless. Ten years ago,
she promised herself to another man. On a
late summer’s day he comes to claim her.
Seats selling fast so early booking is advised. Golden Globe winner Joely Richardson, star of US TVs Nip/Tuck and The Tudors plays Ellida. Her
recent stage appearance in Side Effects in New York
won resounding plaudits. Joely’s recent film releases
include Anonymous in which she co-starred with her
mother, Vanessa Redgrave; Girl with the Dragon
Tattoo with Daniel Craig; Red Lights with Robert De
Niro and Sigourney Weaver and Thanks for Sharing
with Gwyneth Paltrow, Mark Ruffalo and Tim Robbins.
This major revival is directed by Stephen Unwin,
widely hailed for his five productions of Ibsen,
including an award-winning Hedda Gabler at
the Donmar. Set design is by Simon Higlett,
costume design by Mark Bouman and music
by Corin Buckeridge.
This is a new translation by Stephen Unwin.
