Autumnal Days 2011

Healing creatures and raggedy messes

Like Welcome to the newsletter! on Facebook

Thank You Workshop Attendees!

We had a w onderful Workshop in September and both Saturday and Sunday had special people and special energy. With people coming from as far away as Canada, Idaho, Washington and California, it was a mix of artists, a yoga/mediation teacher, a jeweler, a horsewoman/writer, and a glass artist. It was my first Workshop here at Apifera, and the morning session was spent comuning with the donkeys [Matilda was the big star!]  and then capturing their essence and healing spirit in gestural drawings. The afternoon was spent in the barnyard drawing other creatures - and next year I've already decided to add more structure to the afternoon section with an hour of word/image play to help attendees share story in art and words.

I've set September 22, 2012 as the fall workshop, so take note.  See a slide show of this year's event.

Announcing...

Raggedy aprons and messes & MORE
now at my Etsy shop

I took some time off Etsy this past year, but am back on, posting my Raggedy Aprons, Raggedy pillows, small and large prints and folk dolls. Remember tht apron sales help senior and needy animals year round. We donate money to a select goup of animal groups we know and trust each year. Apifera is home to 13 old and needy animals adopted from rescues and sanctuaries, along with the 13 semi ferel cats that wander to Apifera - or arepicked up out of sure death situations, like Miss Elberta Peach.

Animal news

The big addition to theA pifera family is a pig named Rosie! But wait, she came with a very handicpped but loving goat named Stevie. It all started when Iset out to find an old pot bellied pig to adopt - I'd always wanted one. Years went by, and somehow I stumbled onto Sanctuary One in southern Oregon who had pig named Rosie to rehome. She wasn't old, but her former owner was old and had to give her up due to heart issues. But when she arrived at the sanctuary, Rosie was grumpy and the only other animal she really got along with that didn't mind her grumpiness was a goat named Stevie. Stevie had been rescued from a herd of 30 goats, but Stevie's feet were so bad he could only walk on his knees, and over time could not even stand up. The Humane Society provided a surgery for Stevie that now allows him to stand somewhat, so he can get around better. He is the sweetest most loving boy.

I told my husband I was taking him on a two day fishing trip...and we were picking up a pig and a crippled goat. That's love. We love them both- grumpy or not.

Of course you can opt out of this mess if you want  [scroll to bottom of page]. We will all sniff and stomp, but we understand not everyone is interested in art mixed with donkey and old goat essence.

Thank you to book buyers...

I want to thank everyone who buys the book and writes me afterwards. Just yesterday I got a snail mail letter from an older woman who doesn't use the computer, telling me she had just bought the book and wanted to thank me for helping inspire her out of a creative block. Those notes mean a lot. See the trailer here. And you can buy the book on Amazon here.

"Healing Creatures"

I'm working on an evolving story - and presenting it in chapters on my main site. Featuring my art and felted creatures, it shows how my musing with the animals in my art, is a healing process for me. Visit "Healing Creatures"  >
You can buy Apifera Farm's dried lavender bundles and bud at their Local Harvest on line store. No pesticides and naturally fertilized by the farm's sheep.
Illustration commission for The Bark Magazine: I was hired to do a small, teeny spot of a dog for a tender story of a child's death for the popular dog magazine..
