President’s Message 10.09.11
By Beth Satterfield
October is a busy month – we’ve got a lot going on! A few reminders:
- Boosterthon is our major fundraiser of the year. It starts this week with a Pep Rally on the 11th – parents are welcome! Please make an effort to at least find one sponsor for your child – a flat donation or per lap fees are fine with us. You also have the option of sponsoring a child with no other sponsors. The great thing is that all children get a t-shirt and all get to participate. The Fun Run is on the 20th – with sessions at 9:30 (1-2), 10:45 (3-4) and noon (k-5). Please come watch your child run/walk/roll – it is something you won’t want to miss!
- PTA Meeting on 10/18 @ 9:30 – Come and get an update on our master plan for our Outdoor Explorer’s Project and much more.
- Grounds Cleanup day is Saturday 10/22 – please join us! (see article below)
- Mark your calendars for Friday night 10/28 for a new kind of Dining for Dollars event at McDonald’s – we’re hearing other schools have raised more than $1,000 at these. This money, as well as any money raised by those attending the Corn Maze on 10/31 will go toward funding our PTA budget. We have a lot of teachers eager for SmartBoards!
- October is the last month to re-register as a volunteer without cost to the school system. Please do not delay – if you registered last year but haven’t done so this year – you may see your name on the list of cleared volunteers, but it will drop off on October 31st.
Also – I know Mrs. Wahl pointed out some great statistics about our school in her letter this past Tuesday. I wanted to make you aware of the
testing fact sheet posted on the school site. Weatherstone is a
School of Distinction and we have met our high growth standard from the state since we’ve been in operation. WES ranks highly among the 104 elementary schools in Wake County – we should be proud! Your membership in the PTA and participation in all these great events helps make our great school even greater – thank you!

Target’s Take Charge of Education Program
By Explorer Express
The new Target is open! If you are opening up a REDcard account, please take the time to designate WES. Our school ID# is 462, or you can find it by zip code. Anyone who has a Target Visa Credit Card and Target Credit Card can designate our school (that means all of your relatives and friends – no matter if they are out of state or local).
Thanks to the purchases of REDcard cardholders who have designated Weatherstone (which total 28) we have already earned $85.86 since September! The most recent Target donation to this school, in August 2011, was $1093.73. Just think what we could earn if we double the number of registered cardholders!
In case you were wondering how the program works…For cardholders enrolled in the program, Target donates 1% of all Target Visa Credit Card and Target Credit Card purchases made at a Target store or at Target.com and 1% of all Target Debit Card purchases made at a Target Store. Target donates 1/2 % of all Target Visa Credit Card purchases made outside of Target.

Boosterthon is kicking off this week with the Pep Rally on Tuesday, October 11th. Parents are invited to join the high energy event. The first pep rally will be at 1:30 PM for K thru 2nd grade and the second pep rally for 3rd thru 5th grades will start at 2:30 PM.
After the Pep Rally, students will receive their pledge packages which contain information about the program and how parents can help. The students can then begin collecting pledges for the Fun Run.
The Fun Run will be held on Thursday, October 20th. The times for the Fun Run are: 9:30 AM for 1st and 2nd grades; 10:45 for 3rd and 4th grades; and 12:00 PM for 5th grade and kindergarten. We need some volunteers to hand out water and to cheer on our kids. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Sue Reilly at syreilly@nc.rr.com with the time(s) that you would like to volunteer. Note: you need to be a WCPSS registered volunteer to help with this event.
Boosterthon is our biggest fundraiser of the year. The funds raised will go toward the many PTA programs planned for this school year. Our emphasis this year is funding Smart Boards for the classrooms.
Grounds Cleanup Day 10/22 @ 9:00AM
By Explorer Express
Grounds Cleanup Day is Saturday, October 22nd, at 9:00 AM. We need families to help us spruce up our campus (e.g., remove weeds, pick up trash and plant flowers). We also are planning to have mulch delivered – so we need help spreading it. If you decide to volunteer, we ask that you bring such items as clippers, rakes, brown bags and gloves. We also ask that you consider donating a small plant for the existing beds and gardens around the school.
We hope that you will join us in our effort to keep our school looking beautiful.
