Special Appeals
We have 4 special appeals at the moment.  Click each boxer babe's name to be taken to our website to find out more about them.

Alfie

Alfie
Handsome young Alfie comes to us with several health problems, all of which are controllable with medications and BWS will meet the cost of this.  Alfie also has some behavioral problems and as such will need an experienced owner.

Benny

Benny
Handsome Benny has just turned a year and is looking for an experienced owner with no kids.  Ideally an older dog to teach him some manners in the home would be ideal.  Benny would make a fun addition to your home.

Lennon

Lennon
2 year old Lennon is a lively good natured boy.  He is deaf but please don't let that put you off.

Marquis

Marquis
Gentle Marquis is a 9 year old boy who is looking for a new home. Marquis has had his eye removed and has to take thyroid medication.

General Appeals

Collars, Leads and Jackets

If you have renewed your pooches old collar, leads, toys and jumpers this Christmas please don't throw your old ones away.  We can use these items at our kennels as many of the dogs that come into our care do so with no belongings.  If you have anything you would like to donate for use at the BWS kennels please contact us and we will arrange for it to be collected.

Print a Poster

It would be a great help to us if you could print a poster and put in up in your local vet, shop or pub.  Everything you can do to spread the word of BWS is so important to us.  If even just one potential adopter sees a poster you could have change a boxers life forever.

Please download a poster from here.
BWS NEWSLETTER

Sorry we are a little later this month in getting our Newsletter to you.  In January we found homes for the Handsome Dillon and Gus who had before been in our care for sometime.  We are so Happy that they both now have families who adore them and will give them all the love and attention they deserve.

Some of our January 2011 Happy Endings

Unfortunately we once again find ourselves inundated with lots of boxers.  Just yesterday we had 6 boxers come into our care.  We really need people to help spread the word of BWS to help us find Forever Homes for all our Boxer Babes currently in our care.  We also have several dogs that will require medication and vet care for the rest of their lives which BWS will pay for.  So we really need all your help with fundraising.  If you have any ideas for fundraising whether its hosting a quiz night or doing a sponsored event we would to hear from you.   We would also be grateful for anyone who could print off a poster to display in their local shop, pub or vets.  These can be found on our website.

Our new phone system is up and running.  The new phone number is 01224 515101 and comes complete with 4 operators.  You will either have your call answered by Lorraine(Boss), Carrie, Lorraine M or Shona.  We are sure you will find them all Friendly and approachable.

We are currently in the process of making some changes to our website in the aim of making it more user friendly and more encouraging for people to contact us or even better to apply to adopt!  So if you have any suggestions for the website we would love to hear from you.  We would also like to hear from our adopters and their thoughts on the adoption process.  Our hope is to continue and improve on all the excellent work that BWS has done in the past, so please share your thoughts with us at boxerwelfarescotland@hotmail.co.uk

Boxer Health

Each month we will feature a different health compliant that is common in the boxer breed.  This month will feature Mast Cell Tumours and Histiocytomas:

Mast Cell Tumours

Mast cell tumours are very common in boxers and can be life threatening if not treated quickly enough. These often appear in the form of small lumps, the most common being a mass of between 1 and 10 cm in diameter which is well formed, raised and hard to the touch. A mct can also change in size, and can shrink or grow on a daily basis.

Histiocytomas

Histiocytomas are generally benign tumours and are not considered an immediate health risk to the boxer. They appear has a raised, hairless and bright red or "angry" lump and are more generally found on younger dogs, around the head, limbs and ears commonly.
