General Appeals

Collars, Leads and Jackets

If you have renewed your pooches old collar, leads, toys and jumpers this Christmas please don't throw your old ones away.  We can use these items at our kennels as many of the dogs that come into our care do so with no belongings.  If you have anything you would like to donate for use at the BWS kennels please contact us and we will arrange for it to be collected.

Tombola & Raffle Prizes

We have lots of events coming up where we would love to have Tombola and Raffles.  In order to do this we need people to donate prizes such as teddy bears, bottles of alcohol, unwanted gifts etc.  If you have anything you think can be of use please get in touch.

Print a Poster

It would be a great help to us if you could print a poster and put in up in your local vet, shop or pub.  Everything you can do to spread the word of BWS is so important to us.  If even just one potential adopter sees a poster you could have change a boxers life forever.

Please download a poster from here.

BWS NEWSLETTER

Another couple of busy months for BWS.  We had some good news in that we managed to rehome two of our Special Appeals.  Benny & Marquis both found their forever homes in March.  Marquis will stay with his foster mum and sister who just couldn't bare to be parted from him.  Our little trouble maker Benny has found himself a new boxer sister and a mum & dad are who are happy to work on his issues.  Good luck to both Marquis and Benny in their forever homes.

Some of our February/March 2011 Happy Endings

Currently we have around 30 boxers in our care or waiting to come in.  We are really struggling at the moment to find new homes for all our boxer babes.  We really need to spread the BWS word.  You may have heard us on the radio last week or seen our ad in the paper.  As I type STV have their cameras up at our Peterhead Kennels filming a piece on BWS.

We  still need your to help spread the word of BWS to help us find Forever Homes for all our Boxer Babes currently in our care.  We would also be grateful for anyone who could print off a poster to display in their local shop, pub or vets.  These can be found on our website.

We have redesigned our website and will hopefully have the new website launched before the end of April.  Hopefully you will find the new website easier to use, friendlier, containing more information and with lots more photos.  Lots of hard work has going into, we really hope people will enjoy it.  So please keep an eye out for the new site going live.

Photo Appeal

We would love to get some updated photos for Happy Endings.  So if you have adopted one of our Boxer Babes in the past we would love for you to send new photos of them!  The reason we are all involved in BWS is to find Forever Homes for our boxer babes, so we will never tire of seeing photos of them in their Forever Homes.  So even if you rehomed your babe in 2005 we would still love to hear from you.

Boxer Health

Each month we will feature a different health compliant that is common in the boxer breed.  This month will feature Gastric Torsion (Bloat):

Bloat is a medical condition in which the stomach becomes overstretched by excessive gas content. It is also commonly referred to as torsion, gastric torsion, and gastric dilatation-volvulus (GDV) when the stomach is also twisted. The word bloat is often used as a general term to cover gas distension of the stomach with or without twisting. This condition can be fatal and requires IMMEDIATE medical attention. Symptoms of bloat can be:

  • continuous pacing and an inability to get comfortable
  • abdominal swelling after meals
  • gagging or dry vomiting
  • salivating, panting or whining
  • distended stomach
  • being quieter than usual

To avoid bloat, it is generally agreed that you should feed little meals often, rather than one large meal a day. Do not exercise your dog immediately before or after a meal and avoid allowing them to drink excessively after their meal. Slower eating is also understood to help prevent bloat.
