Back in the Swing

We're having a fantastic time introducing West Coast Swing at Dance With Alana Studios! Due to pent-up demand, we're a bit spoiled with a very full class of dancers, all with some level of experience, either in WCS or other dances.

If you have WCS experience but have been wishing to get back into a group learning setting, contact Maria about jumping into the 14-week session now (leaders and couples; followers are on a wait list).

We're now working with the studio to plan our Spring Session offerings (starting April 1). We hope to offer two classes: Beginner WCS for brand-new recruits and Level 2 for current students who are ready and eager to progress.


Double-Down Weekends: The Place to Be

"Ottawa's Double-Down WCS Weekends" is what we're calling the monthly event with two offerings:

  • "uptown@DWA" dance hosted by DJs OldsKOOL (Andre) and DaCube (Donnie Neron)
  • "Groovy Westie Sunday" afternoon workshops & practice dances with Andre and Maria

West Coast Swing Dance OttawaThe first Double-Down Weekend on January 22/23 was a smashing success, with an excellent turnout of dancers of all levels and guests joining us from Toronto, Montreal and up-state New York.

Please mark your calendars and tell your friends about Double-Down weekends!

  • Dates: February 19/20, March 19/20, April 16/17
  • Dance: $7.00; 8:00pm-midnight; after-party at a nearby pub. Download the dance PDF flyer >>
  • Workshops: $15 each includes practice; $25 for two; $35 for the whole afternoon. See this web page for a workshop schedule and details >>
  • Location: Dance With Alana Studios, 858 Bank Street (Bank @ 5th, with Glebe Fitness. On-street parking throughout the neighbourhood. Paid parking at the nearby Beer Store, 900 Bank.)
  • Cover: $7.00/person

Where to Practice
West Coast Swing Dance OttawaA number of our students have asked us how they can know when and where in Ottawa we'll be practice dancing, aside from Double-Down weekends. We are keeping our online Google Calendar up to date with the dances we plan to attend, in addition to our travel and private lesson schedule. See it here >>

Can You Help?
Visiting guests add variety and fun to any community! We often need hospitable folks to billet out-of-town guests during Double-Down weekends. If you have a spare bed, futon or inflatable mattress to offer up on the Saturday evening of any Double-Down weekend, please let Maria know. She'll check with you before assigning any guests to you - but we do need to know who's available to call on when the need arises.
