Dear Friends of MECA,
I am outraged that a few adults on the board of the Museum of Children’s Art in Oakland were convinced by anti-Palestinian bigots to cancel an exhibit of art by children in Gaza, Palestine. That's why I—and all my colleagues here at Middle East Children's Alliance—are working night and day to make sure that this amazing, heart-wrenching art is seen.
We are so close to making it happen and urgently need your help now. Please show the children that there are many more adults who care about their lives and their future.
These nine, ten and eleven-year old children survived Israel’s horrific three-week attack on Gaza in the winter of 2008-09. In the aftermath, one of MECA’s projects, Let the Children Play & Heal, gave thousands of children the chance to cope with what they saw and felt and experienced by making pictures. Their artwork has already been shown on the Internet, and in several US cities and towns.
The children survived but they still live with the psychological scars of what they saw. And they continue to live under siege—deprived of medicine, clean water, books, school supplies, food, and other basic necessities.
Now, you and I must make sure the children are not deprived of the right to tell the world about their lives and their dreams for the future.
Please make an emergency contribution now to help MECA secure an alternative venue for the children's art and to continue our support for Let the Children Play & Heal so thousands more children in Gaza have the chance to express themselves.
Many thanks,
Barbara Lubin
Executive Director
P.S. We're not letting anything or anyone stop us. The children’s art exhibit will “open” outside the original venue this coming Saturday, September 24 from 1pm-3pm. Please come if you’re in the Bay Area. If not, please tell all your friends who live nearby. And, please, make the most generous contribution you can now so the children’s art can find a home for two months, as planned. Thank you.
