Music + Food, Seattle Company Harnesses Two Essential Gauges of A Culture (VIDEO)
White Moustache Urban Adventure Company introduces "Musical Plates"
SEATTLE—Seattle has several food tour companies, but only one brings a band and a bus.
White Moustache Urban Adventure Company’s “Musical Plates” turns the everyday, every-city food tour on its head. A tour of noteworthy restaurants accompanied by a local band is arguably the most authentic way of discovering Seattle and its culture. (See video below or here.)
Seattle is more than just Belltown and Pike Place Market (common locations for walking food tours) and White Moustache follows cultural food trends with a more fluid approach. “The best way to explore any culture is by listening to their music and eating their food. Combining the two is the best way to show off the idiosyncrasies of Seattle—our neighborhoods and history,” says Lathrop.
With the Musical Plates tour, “Gastro Guide” Bryce Lathrop invites a local independent band to help build the tour. After hearing tales of their food forays, Bryce gets to work researching which of Seattle’s restaurants serve the best rendition of the band’s favorites, and that then is the route. The invited band performs live at each restaurant and participants are treated to live shows and a multi-course meal at the most treasured places in town. Not only do participants get an intimate concert by the band, they’re also able to connect with the musicians personally – hearing stories and hanging out with up and coming rock stars. Music and food – an unparalleled way for locals and tourists alike to discover Seattle.

Ann Peavey from the Seattle Convention & Visitor’s Bureau says, “Every city needs a person like Bryce and a tour like White Moustache. Nothing is canned – every bit of what he talks about is from experience and being part of an extensive food community in Seattle. I’ve truly never taken a tour with such a sense of authenticity. I don’t like using the words ‘the best’ to describe anything – but this really was!”
Chef Bryan Vietmeier from Take 5 Urban Market says, “We have our regulars and our occasional new customer, but when White Moustache continues to bring new folks in, we know we’re doing something right!”
North Seattle Resident Bill Nieman says, “The combination of food and music set a tone of adventure for the evening--plus being driven through neighborhoods you think you know, only to see all sorts of things you didn't know were there. But the best part was the sense of community. We were all there with the same missions: Experience the city, the food, the music, the culture.”
“It is really easy to be the best at what you do when you’re the only one doing it”, says Lathrop. The look on someone’s face when they hear a piece of music they’re surprised by or taste something that knocks their socks off … well, that’s what it’s all about. When we are able to peel back the layers of this city and celebrate just how talented it’s musicians and chefs are, then we’ve put in a good day’s work.”
