Grandmother Park Initiative HUGE Garage Sale - June 25th & 26th

Fund-raising for the tot lot at 1125 Dewey is shifting into high gear and you can help! This weekend there will be a garage sale at
1801 Crain St with all proceeds to benefit the
Grandmother Park Initiative. Several residents in Evanston, including former Mayor Lorraine H. Morton, have formed a non-profit group called the Grandmother Park Initiative to create a "tot lot" or "pocket park" in our community. This park and its equipment would be solely intended for young children and their parents, grandparents, and caregivers.
As part of their efforts to collect funds for this exciting project they will be hosting a community garage sale on
Saturday June 25th from 9 am to 5 pm and June 26th from 10 am to 3 pm. Make sure you stop by, pick a treasure and help our community become a better place!
Congratulations to the group for their recent award from the
Evanston Community Foundation! For more information visit

An Important Message from your Evanston Health Department Director
In light of recent severe weather conditions, Evonda Thomas, Director of the Evanston Health Department wanted to remind us all to be safe and prepared.
Dear Evanston Residents:
With weather-related disasters in the southern states as well as abroad, now is a good time to review your own emergency preparedness.
Government organizations such as the Evanston Health Department hold drills in preparation for widespread emergencies, but with a few simple steps you can also prepare yourself and your family to be ready in case of a tornado, a flood, a chemical spill, a disease outbreak, or even a bio-terrorism threat.
First, make sure everyone in your family has an emergency guide containing personal information with name, address, medications used and allergies. Include emergency contact names and phone numbers for your physician, pharmacy and family friend or relative. Family members should put that in a pocket, a purse or a wallet and carry that with them wherever they go.
When making a personal emergency plan, consider all occupants of your home, including those with special needs, small children and pets.
Have an evacuation plan for your family with a designated meeting place, and share that information with your family and friends who need to know where you are. Try to take time to assemble an emergency supply kit for your family with items to help you manage some simple living expectations in case of a disaster.
While none of us expect to face a disaster, recent headlines teach us that preparing before an emergency will help protect us, our families, and our communities. In the near future, the Health Department will be distributing handouts to help you prepare for emergencies.
Sincerely,
Evonda Thomas RN MSN DHA ©
