NEGOTIATIONS UPDATE - 5/2/2011
The negotiations team met with the district on May 2, 2011.
The district started the meeting with a discussion regarding the history of using Ron Bennett, School Services of California, in our district regarding negotiations with the teachers.
The district admitted that after looking over the numbers, the thirty percent (they originally felt was our share of the cuts) was too high. We discussed wanting to find a percent we can agree on and a methodology for calculating this percent.
As part of this, the district suggested that we meet with Ron Bennett and then we can develop a methodology that we can live with in both times of cuts and when there is money for raises.
CSEA shared with the district some of the feedback we received. Many members understood the need for furlough days. We told them that no matter what is agreed at the table, it has to be an agreement that our members would also support. Please keep the feedback coming in through this whole process.
We are also discussing restoration language if the cuts we receive are not as deep as we project.
As we develop the agreement with the district, we will keep you posted.
