October: Rally for The Cure- Simi Hills

Our 2 October Rally for The Cure events allowed us to donate more than $1500!

Our October 18-hole event, on the 29th, was a Rally for the Cure tournament to benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation, in its fight against breast cancer. We had 28 players come out to enjoy the Fall weather, the challenging Simi Hills course and the camaraderie, all while raising money for a good cause. Carol Grosvenor won the special “Rally” closest to the pin on #18 and Kathryn Jackson took the prize for #17. Judy Pachciarz won the putting pool, with only 29 on tough greens. There were 5 chip-ins; Lauren Suzuki, Roberta Kantola, Jayne Geisler, Pat Martzen and Joanne Williams split the pot. Many of our members and regular sponsors donated toward the raffles and prizes, including Lauren Suzuki (first up to bat with seed money for our Arcadia and Simi drawings), Mary Ellen Knowles, Romona Henderson, Mary Ayers and her company NSBN, Kathy Malmfeldt, Janice Kuwahara, Barbara Trivison, Optician, Dr. D. Wes Wheadon, Optometry and Roger Dunn. The two October events allowed us to donate more than $1,500, while still covering all our costs and normal profit. A big thanks to Laura Perry and Kathy Malmfeldt for running the event, and to all the generous members who played and donated.

La Mirada 11-5-11
Mary Ellen Knowles
We were blessed with a sunny day, sandwiched in between two rainy days... and the carts were allowed on the golf course. Thank goodness for this as La Mirada is a very hilly course with scarcely a level lie for your ball. Our group of 15 had some extra time to socialize.. as the Men's Club in front of us ran
over their tee times by 30 minutes:) Carol Grosvenor took low putts with 26 (truly amazing at this course). There were no chip-ins, so the $14 pot will roll over to the first 18 hole event of 2012. Carol also won the $25 RD certificate for closest to the pin on hole #9. No one got on the green for the second, on hole #17. Everyone had fun and we learned alot about uneven lies!
