Elizabeth Avant

Elizabeth is Austin-born and recently graduated from the University of Texas with a Bachelor of Music in Choral Studies. She is in her first year as an elementary music teacher in Austin ISD. She is very involved in First Baptist Church - ringing handbells, singing in two choirs and being a member of the Christian Education Committee. This is Elizabeth’s first year in AHE and yes, she is related to the director!

Carol Holck

Carol is new to AHE this year. She serves as Director of Worship and Music at Triumphant Love Lutheran Church where she directs two handbell groups, among other things. Carol was introduced to handbells in college at Wittenberg University. After many dry years, she is happy to be ringing in a group again. Carol has two grown children, both students in higher education, and has recently married the love of her life, Steve Harlow. Carol is an exercise enthusiast, loves to dance, and goes hiking every chance she gets.

David McCullars

David is director of software developing for E Publishing.  He’s played piano since childhood, trumpet since middle school, and guitar since high school.  This is his second  year with AHE and he also rings with his church handbell choir at First Baptist.  David and wife Cinda are proud parents to twins Eyan and Chloe.  Remarkably he still finds some time for pursuing theater, hiking, backpacking, and computer games.

Serenity:
Fall Release A Huge Success!

Our latest holiday CD captures that moment of peace on Christmas Eve when the gifts are wrapped, kids are in bed, and you can finally pause to reflect on the season.  We are thankful to KUT (90.5) and KMFA (89.5) for all the airplay during the holiday season.  During the third week of December Serenity made the Waterloo Records Top 50 Lists - All Waterloo Sales #14 and Texas Music #7.

Praise from John Aielli of KUT:  "I can’t tell you how much I LOVE the new CD!  Today I played
Let All Mortal Flesh  and Festival Prelude on Deo Gracias, both stellar!!!  And I’ve been ordering people to go and buy it."
Praise from composer Matthew Prins:  "Great performances on both my pieces (
We Three Jazzy Kings and The World In Solemn Stillness Lay)!  I'm really thrilled to have this CD."

Praise from composer Cathy Moklebust:  "I very much appreciate the quality, especially the attention to nuance, and also the consistency of volume and timbre from top to bottom - this is so hard to achieve. Great job." (
Let All Mortal Flesh and O Little Town of Bethlehem)

Praise from composer Hart Morris:  "I am enjoying it immensely. You all did a terrific job. You should be very proud of the finished product. Thanks for including
Blue Christmas!"

It's never too early to start your Christmas shopping!

Help Us Fund New Handbells

We are thankful for the support we have received from you over the years. Your presence at our concerts gives us our reason for ringing. Your donations and CD purchases fund  AHE  and allow us to continue performing and growing. As we grow and look forward to our 20th anniversary in 2015, we hope to purchase our own set of handbells. The cost of five octaves of handbells is about $25,000.

Are you able to help us reach this goal? Perhaps you could make a donation for the entire amount. If not, individual bells range in price from $186.00 for our smallest bell to $1,035.00 for the largest. Any donation would be greatly appreciated. Since AHE is a 501(c)3 organization, you can receive a tax deduction for your contribution. If you donate $200.00 or more, we will offer you a receipt for tax purposes, recognition in our concert program and newletter, a gift of our newest CD and our sincere gratitude.

Please help us ring in our anniversary with our own set of handbells!

Bethany McMillan

Playing with AHE from 1996 to 2006, Bethany McMillan returns after a four year hiatus. She grew up in Austin and graduated from University of Houston where she met her husband of over thirty years, David. They have two children.  Christopher is currently in law school and Catherine is graduating from A&M in December.   Bethany works as a Registered Nurse at Austin Gastroenterology and frequently reminds us how important a colonoscopy is for those over the age of 50.  She and her family love to travel and hike.

Summer Ring

Come ring with AHE this summer! We have reserved four dates just for you. Ring level 2-3 music on June 13 and 27. Ring level 3-4 music on July 11 and 25. These ringing sessions are on Monday evenings from 7:00 to 8:30 at a downtown Austin location to be determined. You can come to all four sessions or just a few - it is free to attend.
